Becca's favorites: Marriage Books!

I'm one of those sappy people who just loves Valentine's Day!  Even if we don't do anything special, I love every opportunity to be intentional about showing my husband how much I love him.   Life gets so busy, and it's easy to take each other for granted. Marriage is hard work, takes lots of discipline, and really isn't at all like Hollywood portrays it to be.  However, all of the hard work is worth it! There is nothing like being married to your best friend and having someone to share your dreams and disappointments with!  I'm such a fan of books and preparing (I'm a planner, duh!) and in honor of Valentine's Day, want to share a few books that have meant a lot to us and have given us really good practical marriage advice (that we've actually used!):

For Women Only and For Men Only by the Feldhahn's are awesome! If you want to "get in the head" of your significant other, and really learn how they uniquely think as a male or female - this is the book for you!

Love and Respect is all about learning how to really give each other what you need - based on the premise that women are created to desire love above all things and men desire respect more than anything.  Dr. Eggerich talks about the "crazy cycle" that many of us in relationships get in when we aren't really giving each other the love or respect we are hoping for.

This book is genius!  Each of us are created to lean towards certain "love languages" - similar to personality traits in the ways that we give or receive love.  It was super helpful to us to learn what each other's love languages were in efforts to know how to love each other in specific ways.

Dr. Laura is a radio show host who has written one of the most practical books I've ever read on being a wife.  She's very straight forward and shares stories from couples she has counseled.  You'll have to read it for yourself to find out the 3 things men most desire in life. :)

Hoping your Valentine's is full of lots of love (and chocolate too!)

Ashley and David: Cobblestone Hall

Last year I met the sweetest couple. It was during the height of construction and they called to set up an appointment. It was a weekend we were painting/siding/doing something that basically made it difficult to leave the property - so I asked if they could come to me. They graciously agreed and they arrived a few minutes early before I could change out of my Oscar the Grouch pants. I was sure they would think - who the heck is this person?!? Well- they were great, and very forgiving of my Oscar the Grouch pants.

The first thing I noticed about them is that they were just smitten with each other. They were beaming and so happy to be getting married. These were my kind of people! They had spectacular taste with amazing vendors and we were so happy to be a part of their day!

All photos by the fabulous Lauren Mann - make sure to check out the vendors that made this day possible.

Gorgeous! Seriously - she was just beaming all day!

Great job Greg! These flowers were awesome

Beautiful ladies. They were so much fun!

I don't think she could have been smiling any bigger

Look at that detail- her dress was divine!

The handsome groom - he too was just smitten all day!

The boys - fun, carefree, and kept us all laughing

Great setting for a beautiful day

Love this shot! (It was right about here the sky fell out)

They are married!

They took the Raleigh Trolley to take them to the reception - such a fun idea! We had to change up some picture plans because our gorgeous day turned into a very wet day - but they rolled with it and kept smiling.

So sweet

Love this shot!

I can't get over these flowers

And that is how you get introduced!

More beautifulness

The cake!

They had such a sweet first dance

This Dad was soo proud of his daughter. It was the sweetest thing to see them together

A man and his momma

The parents dancing the night away

It's a sorority tradition people!

These people knew how to have a good time!

Dancing the night away

So this - this is the coolest gift I've ever seen. These two awesome guys (you know the mentos guys?!?) they had all the guests fill out well wishes on paper airplanes and then at the end of the night, they launched them as a surprise to Ashley. It was super neat and such a cool idea!

Awesome end to a great night!
Thank you Ashley and David for letting us be a part of your day - it was such an honor working with you both!
